Meet Jacqueline Choi

Jacqueline is inspired by observations of her surroundings, she likes to show her personal experience and point of view. She loves travelling and likes to record her journeys by collecting bits and pieces (postcards, tickets, maps, leaflets…etc) and taking lots of photographs. She creates and designs using the things she sees on her travels, and the things she collects; this can be seen in her Japan Railway Ticket poster.

Jacqueline is interested in paper folding/origami and packaging design. A personal project of hers allowed her to write a brief to design packaging and branding for a Cantonese café that targets the UK market. She experimented with different materials and folding techniques to produce the final outcome.

‘Japan Railway Tickets’
Japan Railway tickets were used as a reference to design a perforated ticket poster. This project records a 19-day-long trip in Japan and the tickets are placed in a sequence of the traveling time.

‘Canton Packaging Design’
A branding and packaging design for a Cantonese cafe - Canton. The patterns are inspired by the Hong Kong cafe and a Chinese character meaning hungry is used in the design.

This project was submitted in the Shine award by Coley Porter Bell, and has been selected as one of the ten finalists.

At Now What, Jacqueline plans to show a further development of her interest in paper sculpture. A series of posters have been designed to fold into paper diamond.
